Dere - Additional Errata First, a bit of history: The Star Wars Saga Edition is the total of officially licensed sixth basic rules of a Star Wars Pen & Paper RPG.
overview of the recent Star Wars RPG:
- Star Wars d6 (1987, West End Games)
- Star Wars d6 Second Edition (1992, West End Games)
- Star Wars d6 Second Edition Revised and Expanded (1996, West End Games)
- Star Wars d20 (2000, Wizards of the Coast)
- Star Wars d20 Revised (2002, Wizards of the Coast)
- Star Wars Saga Edition (2007, Wizards of the Coast)
Who wants to deal with the approaching
d6 system (imo a really wonderful role-playing system!), Found in the Net certainly have enough material for it, but that is not the issue here.
after the issuing of the two d20 editions had to face the Wizards of the Coast Star Wars miniature market and brought out a wide range of minis including tabletop rules. The Saga Edition should now port on the one hand by the new Star Wars movie trilogy created extensions to the setting in the role play, weave the other hand the experiences of the miniature game in the RPG combat rules.
This can be seen clearly also in the system design, the combat rules are aimed at a Battle Mat are displayed with 1-inch-square boxes and miniatures. In principle, it is of course possible to play fighting in Star Wars Saga Battle without Mat, some regulating mechanisms (Line of Sight, Cover, Weapon Ranges ,...) can only be reproduced inaccurate.
expected from the design rule her Star Wars saga as a mixture of D & D 3.5 and D & D 4. Although still under the label "d20" standing, some concepts are mentioned, which is about a year later in D & D 4 (published 2008) used (were class-specific talent / Powers, passive defenses, Second Wind ,...). By d20, as we know it from the SRD
has Star Wars saga, but definitely still recognizable similarities (such as the knowledgeable reader will find upon further reading).
is also Star Wars Saga, a step-based system, where (as well-known) Level
n at
( n 2-n) * 500 XP is achieved. Although the steps in the basic rules tables end at level 20, but are extendable to a simple scheme for ad infinitum and it spoke up control technology in principle no objection to play up even more. For Yoda and Palpatine in the rulebook NPC stats are given, and indicated there were classes for both level 20, but have the attributes of characters at level 36 + on. Space for development to the top is so given.
The
character creation based on the steps
- race
- class
- attributes
- Skills
- Feats
- Talents
The basic rules (Core Rulebook), there are 17 predefined
races ( Species) for selection (in addition to humans (Human) course, the ever-popular "I" understand nichse "Gungans and the roaring rug). People are the most versatile breed and get a skill and a feat in addition to free choice, balancing for the other races have ("Nonhuman" or "alien species") established Special skills and / or Attributsmodifikatoren. In addition to organic life forms, it is also possible to play droid, the used control mechanisms are largely the same (as a species you have five different "basic construction types" (Droid Degrees) to choose from and the character class then represents a quasi programming the AI of the droid). In the optional extension volumes more races are included. Generally, however, the class of a character-defining than his race.
SCs choose to stage 1 of the five basic classes
(Basic Classes): Jedi (Hit the d10), Noble (d6), Scoundrel (d6), Scout (d8) or Soldier (d10).
Ab Level 7 is it really interesting because you can then keep you
prestige classes (Prestige Classes), and thus in particular to select the respective associated prestige class talent. In the basic rules of twelve different prestige classes (Ace Pilot, Bounty Hunter, Sith Apprentice ,...) are included, many more can be found in the optional extension of rules. Since most of the prestige classes have special requirements, should be used if one takes a fancy to a special prestige class, plan ahead just two or three steps and enhance the character accordingly. (Who wants to be Jedi, should soon start exercising.)
At level 12, then again a number Another prestige classes unlocked, at which time you can as a career as a Jedi Master or Sith Lord start.
The six
attributes are well known in D & D: Strength, Constitution, Dexterity, Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma. It can be both rolls, and Pointbuy be used. When Pointbuy is the system default: 25 points available, you start with all the attributes to 8, and bought these highly as follows: 1 point to 14 to 15 and 16 each 2 points, to 17 and 18 each with 3 points. Possible sets would be eg 14, 14, 13, 12, 11, 9 (more balanced values), 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 (standard set) or 16, 15, 12, 10, 9, 8 (rather extreme values). Upon reaching level 4, 8, 12, etc. is increased two
different attributes to each 1st
Star Wars saga knows 19 different
Skills (GV "talent," not to be confused however with the "talent") with splits of Knowledge-Skill in seven different independent sections, so you can total of 25 Skills are talking about. What Noble, Scoundrel and Scout to Hit Points and Attack do not get bonus, they make up in this area.
Feats (most likely with "special abilities" or "special skills" translated), there are different applications to (Kampf, Defenses, Skills, Machteinsatz,...).
Nobles haben z.B. spezielle Talents, die ihnen in Verhandlungen helfen, Soldiers haben including special combat skills and Jedi to choose from, for example, personal power-meditation techniques. to deflect blaster shots too, with the light saber as a Jedi talent.
Now a few comments on what makes Star Wars the first Star Wars, namely the power
: There
A fixed alignment system known from D & D sense, it does not, but the so-called Dark Side Score
. You start (kill such innocent people) is usually at 0, for "evil" acts up, this (up to max. To the Wisdom-value), with "good" deeds (eg diplomatic peacekeeping) decrease, he may again (up to min. 0 ). In defining what exactly "evil" and what "good" deeds, is of course a lot of champions this decision, and this may precipitate may also be character specific. Also, the disproportionate use of power-staff, particularly those of the dark side be attributed, may increase the Dark Side Score. If you have so many Dark Side Points as Wisdom accumulated, the character has gone over to the dark side ("Your journey to the dark side has now completed"). This then role-play both as well as regular technical implications, such as those that you can only select full Dark Side Score of the Sith classes so special and Sith abilities. Get rid of the dark side again is difficult, but possible (by man z.B. zufällig anwesende Imperatoren in Reaktorschächte wirft).
Force Points . Das unbewusste Anrufen der Macht repräsentiert/bewirkt eine günstige Schicksalsfügung, extraordinary luck or the Over-the-surpassing in crucial situations. Power-sensitive characters, however, first have more Force Points, and can also use it to effect more strong power effects. Issued Force Points regenerate again until the next level up, so should be used sparingly.
Characters are always start as a Jedi makes sensitive. Non-sensitive characters to make later in the game to be Force-sensitive characters, control technology, this is done by the choice of Feats Force Sensitivity
.
What I personally very happy with the Layoutierung rule books. The text is continuous divided in two columns, and the chapter structure is supported by a thumb index with color code, which will vastly help to capture the visual rules to remember such a simple and mentally draw quick to point to. The page format is square, 23x23 cm, which looks to role-playing rulebooks rather unusual, but at the table proves to be very handy.
Wizards of the Coast has announced the way in January 2010 to phase out their Star Wars license in May 2010. If it remains at this announcement, the completed Star Wars Saga system material is then expected to be the official rulebook (288 pages), 13 expansion volumes (a total of 2592 pages) den Meisterschirm und die "Galaxy Tiles" (Spielpläne mit Quadratraster aus Pappe zur Darstellung von Kämpfen) umfassen.
